Christmas Events – Don’t Miss a Thing!

Yes, it’s approaching rapidly! Have you started your Christmas shopping yet? No, me neither. However, in school, preparations are well underway for all of those special end of term events and the children are working hard to make sure that the performances, parties and church services are delivered to the usual high standard. Make sure that you check the diary section at the end of this (and every ) blog so that you have all of the important dates and times. If yours is like the Clark house, the rule is: if it isn’t on the kitchen calendar, it isn’t happening! Don’t miss a thing this year!

LEEDS PEACE POETRY COMPETITION – Our brilliant writers rewarded!

Miss Quarmby took Molly, Thomas and Nathan from Year 6 to the Great Hall at Leeds University on Wednesday evening to take part in the Leeds Peace Poetry Awards, and what a successful evening it was! When the children were in Year 5, they entered this city-wide competition, writing poems on this year’s theme – refugees. Our children again demonstrated that not only are they brilliant writers but also that they are rapidly becoming the future citizens of the world of which we can all be proud! Our school came in the top three for the whole of Leeds and Nathan achieved the dizzy heights of second place individually with his brilliant, moving and thoughtful poem. We are always proud of our children’s achievements but never more so that on Wednesday evening. Here’s Nathan’s prize-winning poem:

The Devils of Terror

Early morning,

When all were snoring,

The bombs were roaring,

Like devils of terror,

Tormenting me forever.

Like a bull had attacked,

The windows got smacked,

By the devils of terror,

That came flying through the terrible weather.

The wind came howling,

Like a wolf growling,

My heart was pounding, pounding, pounding.

The rocks were smashing,

Into the sea that was crashing, crashing, crashing.

Late at night,

When all were tucked in tight,

I got a shiver of fright,

When the moon came and beamed its light, light, light.

YEAR 5 SEE MARY POPPINS!

The whole of Year 5 enjoyed a magical visit to the theatre on Wednesday. They went to see a production of Mary Poppins at the Alhambra in Bradford and they had a great time. What a fantastic opportunity to see a high-quality theatrical production and all of the children enjoyed themselves tremendously. They also, as usual, represented our school brilliantly and I know that staff received many positive comments about the children’s behaviour. Well done, everyone!

ATTENDANCE

We have enjoyed an improved attendance rate for most of this term and this is really encouraging. Our children will only ever achieve more highly as a whole if the school’s attendance rate is consistently above our target figure of 96%. So far this year, we’re doing well, so…

Cubs 1   95.2%                        Cubs 2   98.3%

Tigers   91%                             Cheetahs   89.3%

Lynx   94.7%                           Snow Leopards   100%

Penguins  95.4%                    Dolphins   98%

Sharks   95.5%                        Polar Bears   97.7%

Panthers   98.9%                    Golden Eagles   94.5%

Pumas   94.6%                        Jaguars   95.9%

A few classes were hit with sickness bugs this week (especially in Year 1) so the overall figure is a little lower at 95.6% but this doesn’t mean we can’t get back on track next week. Let’s see what we can do!

STARS OF THE WEEK @Café Clark

This week’s STars enjoyed their drink and biscuit while celebrating their brilliant achievements this week. We also thought about our favourite fantasy biscuit flavours! Oreo with cookie dough filling sounds interesting! Here they all are:
