Where is this year going? I can’t believe we are coming to the end of our second term at school! We are just enjoying ourselves so much in Year 2!
We have decided to write this weeks blog as a class, so I am joined by all members of Lynx class.
We wanted to tell you all about the amazing writing we have been doing in our English learning. We have been writing alternative versions of traditional tales including Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig and Jack and the Beanstalk. We have been using expanded noun phrases to describe our characters:
Henry- “The wolf has vicious, sharp teeth.”
Emmie-“Little Red Riding Hood has a red, shiny cape.”
Noah- “The green, beautiful forest with glossy trees.”
Joseph P wanted to share part of his alternative version of Little Red Riding Hood…
“Once upon a time there was a young, glossy golden lion. (The golden lion is an Egyptian myth and the Cave Bear lived in the Ice Age times.) He lived with his kind, old mother. The golden lion was called Monty.
“You must go to your granny because she is sick in bed” mother cried suddenly. “And take this basket of freshly picked fruit for her.” On his way into the dark, green woods Monty saw a tiny, yellow sign which read “Whilst you are in the woods, beware of the angry, brown Cave Bear! ” Further in the spooky, eerie wood Monty met the angry, brown Cave Bear…”
We also wanted to tell you all about our Maths learning. We have just finished learning all about fractions and now we are learning how to measure lengths and heights.
Ella- “A metre has 100cm in it.”
Leonie- “It is better to measure bigger things using metres rather than centimetres because metres are bigger.”
Layla- “You MUST always start on 0 when measuring using a ruler to make sure you have measured accurately!”
Finally, one of the things we have loved the most this half term is Reading Club. We have been reading Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl. So far we have only read up to Chapter 3 and we can’t wait to read the rest!
Isaac-” The farmers shot Mr Fox’s tail off!”
Robyn- “I like it because it has lots of animals in it.”
Layton- “I like that Mr Fox APPROACHED the house at night”. We liked this word so much in Lynx Class that it became our Word of the Week.
Thank You for reading Lynx Class blog! If you want to see more of our fantastic learning, don’t forget to follow us on twitter @2022whitkirk. We can’t wait to tell you all about it and do more learning in the future!
