About Our School
Whitkirk Primary School is situated on the eastern edge of the city of Leeds. It is a much-loved primary school with several generations of the same family attending Whitkirk from when it opened as Halton Middle School in 1974 to when it converted to Whitkirk Primary School in 1992.
Whitkirk Primary School is very proud of its locality; as you can see from our school logo, we have a strong relationship with our church, St Mary’s, where we both visit reciprocally and also Temple Newsam which poses the perfect opportunity to learn about the fascinating history of our local area.
At Whitkirk, we are a two-form entry school with approximately 400 pupils. We cater for children aged 4-11; however, on site we have Tiny Tots nursery and Whikidz wrap around care- both of which have been graded “outstanding” by Ofsted.
We work closely with our partners in the TNCP, providing additional support for children and families who may need it. In September 2018, we joined the Red Kite Learning Trust, a group of schools from North Yorkshire and East Leeds working in partnership to ensure all children achieve success.
Some major improvements have been made to our school including new Reception toilets and a fantastic new KS1 quad area. Our staff team always work hard to prepare our learning environments, we are particularly proud of our Reading Corners within school. Reading is at the heart of everything we do at Whitkirk and children begin their phonics learning, exploring new books from the very beginning of the school year. Parents and carers will also quickly get into our routine and you will find members of the senior leadership team, and the pastoral team on the playground each day before and after school. Please do get to know us and your child’s teachers as soon as you can and do keep talking to us- communication between home and school is vital to a strong and positive start to a learning experience and, if we get it right, leads to a long and successful relationship.
When a child is settled, safe and happy then they are able to begin their learning journey….and what a brilliant learning journey we have planned for you!
