Attendance and Holidays in Term Time

Whitkirk Primary School (81)

Senior Attendance Champion - Mrs Quarmby

Attendance Officer - Mrs Audsley

The Importance of Attendance

At Whitkirk Primary School, we believe that excellent attendance is essential for every child to achieve their full potential. Being in school every day and on time ensures children:

  • Make strong academic progress
  • Build positive friendships
  • Develop confidence and independence
  • Feel settled and secure in their routines

School starts at 8:45am. Doors open for Key Stage 2 at 8:35am.

If your child is absent, please call school each day to leave a message for the Attendance Team on 0113 2606203 (select ‘attendance’). Our team is here to offer support and guidance whenever needed.

Monitoring Attendance

If a child is absent and we haven’t heard from a parent or carer, we will contact you to ensure your child is safe and to offer any necessary support.

We are required to follow up with families where attendance becomes a concern. Working together helps us ensure every child can attend school regularly and thrive.

Promoting Good Attendance

We work closely with pupils and families to promote positive habits, including:

  • Establishing calm, organised morning routines
  • Ensuring children get enough sleep
  • Preparing uniform, book bags and lunches the night before
  • Encouraging a positive attitude towards school
  • Communicating early if you or your child need support

Good attendance (96% or above) helps children make the most of every learning opportunity.

Holidays in Term Time

Holidays during term time cannot be authorised except in exceptional circumstances. Taking children out of school can significantly impact their learning, well-being and progress.

If you wish to request leave, please complete a leave of absence form. Please be aware that unauthorised leave may result in a Penalty Notice issued by the Local Authority.

Working Together

We are committed to supporting all families to achieve excellent attendance. If you need help or advice, please contact the Attendance Team — we are here to help.
