Equalities, Diversity & Inclusion
Red Kite Learning Trust is committed to advancing equality of opportunity, fostering good relations as well as eliminating discrimination, harassment and victimisation.
We oppose all forms of unlawful or unfair discrimination, whether because of age, ethnicity, disability, gender, religion and belief, and sexual identity or any other condition or requirement which places a person at disadvantage and cannot be justified. The impact of all policies, practices and day-to-day activities are considered to ensure that no member of the community is discriminated against or put at a disadvantage.
At Whitkirk, we are committed to ensuring equality of education and opportunity for all pupils, staff, parents and carers, irrespective of race, gender, disability, belief, religion or socio-economic background. In order to further support pupils, raise standards and ensure inclusive teaching. In accordance with the Equality Act (2010), we have published a series of Equality Objectives to build upon our achievements. Our current Equality Objectives (2022-2023) include the following key objectives:
- Objective 1: To monitor and analyse pupil achievement by race, gender and disability and act on any trends or patterns in the data that require additional support for pupils.
- Objective 2: To raise levels of attainment in core subjects for vulnerable learners.
- Objective 3: To review levels of parental and pupil engagement in learning and school life, across all activities to ensure equity and fairness in access and engagement.
- Objective 4: To ensure that our curriculum reflects the different groups within school and that it celebrates this diversity and challenges inequality
We are currently taking part in the Red Kite Alliance RED Award. This has been developed to support schools to review, strengthen and celebrate their provision in terms of equality, diversity, respect for individuals and community cohesion. Our engagement with the award signals our clear commitment to place this agenda at the heart of life and work of our school.
The award is underpinned by the values of the Red Kite Alliance, which include “Equality of opportunity of all young people and the staff who work in our schools” as well as “The unique nature of each school and its place within its own community”.
