Uniform

Whitkirk - Trim trail - 2024 (4)At Whitkirk, we have high standards – we are proud to be from Whitkirk and therefore, we wear our school uniform with pride.

It is our policy that all children should wear school uniform when attending school or when participating in a school organised event outside of usual hours.

Our policy is based on the following principles:
  • Promotes a sense of pride
  • Creates a sense of community and belonging
  • Is practical, safe, smart and hardwearing for indoor and outdoor learning
  • Identifies our pupils
  • Ensures children feel equal to their peers in term of appearance and prevents distractions caused by fashion/trends/labels
  • Provides good value for money

Uniform Requirements
  • Grey skirt or pinafore / trousers / shorts
  • White or pale blue blouse/shirt or white polo shirt
  • Royal blue cardigan or sweatshirt (school wear range and not hooded)
  • Smart black shoes or plain black trainers
  • Plain navy, black, grey or white socks
  • Plain grey tights
  • All shirts/blouses should be tucked in.
  • If a child needs a belt, this should be plain in style and black/blue/grey/white in colour
  • Blue and white checked/striped dress in summer
PE Kit
  • Black/ Navy plain PE shorts.
  • White T shirt (no buttons or accessories)
  • For indoor: black pumps or bare feet.
  • For outdoors: sturdy trainers, plain navy tracksuit top and bottoms but not football strips.
  • Long hair must be tied back and no jewellery can be worn for PE sessions
Appearance
  • Hair should be neat and the child’s natural colour. No extreme haircuts such as lines, patterns or shapes shaved into the hair. Long hair (below shoulders) should be tied back. Decorative hair accessories should be small, discrete and in the school colours of blue, grey, black or white.
  • No nail varnish or makeup is to be worn by our children. The exception to this is on dress down days and charity fancy dress days when face paints would be allowed (E.G. dots for Pudsey Bear).
If any parent would like us to modify our uniform policy, they should make representation, in the first instance, to the headteacher. We welcome children from all backgrounds and faith communities. If there are reasons, for example on religious grounds or through disability, why parents want their child to wear clothes different from the uniform policy, then we will look at the case sympathetically.
The governing body monitors and reviews the uniform policy through its committee work by:
  • Seeking the views of parents
  • Considering, with the headteacher, and requests from parents for individual children to have special dispensation with regard to uniform
There is now a legal requirement for us to make second hand uniform available. Many schools have the PTA running an exchange or through a parents Facebook group.
