Catch up funding
Allocated to schools to help targeted pupils make up the lost learning time during lockdown.
At Whitkirk, we are in the process of identifying both the children for this work as well as looking more widely for loss of key skills which are preventing children making the necessary progress.
We are concentrating on a reading intervention for Y5/6 children as well as extra reading support for both fluency and comprehension in Lower Key Stage 2. Additionally, we are looking to increase our phonics provision for Key Stage 1 and Early Years children with a focus on speech and language professional development for our key teaching staff in this area.
We will also use our funding to supplement high quality reading resources, ensuring that all pupils in UKS2 have their own copy of the shared text, and to fund assessment strategies to help us identify gaps in key knowledge and basic skills so teaching can be targeted to address these.
The impact of our catch up premium spending will be monitored through our own assessment and quality assurance systems and there will be an external evaluation with a member of the RKLT Core Team in Spring term.
