MFL Progression of Pitch

At Whitkirk Primary School, we are committed to fostering an interest in learning other languages in a way that is enjoyable and fun.

We believe that the learning of a modern foreign language provides a valuable educational social and cultural experience for pupils. Learning a language helps children to develop communication skills, as well as extending their knowledge of how language works. It gives children a new perspective on the world, encouraging them to understand the cultures of others.

Implementation

All Key Stage pupils will take part in a weekly Spanish lesson, delivered by Senorita Thompson from the Primary Language Network. During these lessons, they will have the opportunity to develop a range of secure vocabulary and be able to use this vocabulary in a variety of sentences using correct grammar.

Children will be provided with activities which enable them to build on their previously learned knowledge throughout Key Stage 2 and ensure they;

  • Understand and respond to spoken and written language from a variety of authentic sources
  • Speak with increasing confidence, fluency and spontaneity, finding ways of communicating what the want to say, including through discussion and asking questions, and continually improving the accuracy of their pronunciation and inotation.
  • Can write at varying length, for different purposes and audiences, using the variety of grammatical structures that they have learnt.
  • Discover and develop an appreciation of a range of writing in the language studied.
