MFL
At Whitkirk Primary School, we are committed to fostering an interest in learning other languages in a way that is enjoyable and fun.
We believe that the learning of a modern foreign language provides a valuable educational social and cultural experience for pupils. Learning a language helps children to develop communication skills, as well as extending their knowledge of how language works. It gives children a new perspective on the world, encouraging them to understand the cultures of others.
In consultation with our local secondary schools, we teach Spanish to children in Key Stage 2. We are very fortunate to have a Spanish teacher, Mrs Gale, in school. The intent of the MFL curriculum at Whitkirk is that children are taught to develop an interest in learning other languages in a way that is enjoyable and stimulating. We encourage children’s confidence and we aim to stimulate and encourage children’s curiosity about language. We also aim to embed the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing and for children to apply their learning in a variety of contexts and lay the foundations for future language learning.
