Computing
Subject Leader – Miss Barrott
At Whitkirk Primary School, we are Digital Innovators! We want our children to develop a love of Computing and grow up with ambitions to become software engineers, video game designers, web developers or IT consultants.
With technology playing such a significant role in society today, we believe it is essential to equip children to use ‘Computational thinking’, creativity and knowledge of computer systems to ensure they are digitally literate and are able to express themselves and their ideas through information and communication technology.
The core of our Computing curriculum is Computer Science in which pupils are introduced to a range of technology, including computers and iPads, allowing them to continually practise and improve the skills they learn. Our children are taught how to use technology responsibly and carefully, being mindful of how their behaviour, words and actions can affect others.
Purple Mash, a cloud-based platform, is used throughout school to support the delivery of our Computing Curriculum. In addition, it enables us to forge cross-curricular links throughout other areas of the curriculum.
