RE Progression of Pitch

At Whitkirk Primary School, we are Theologists! We want our children to develop an outstanding level of religious understanding and knowledge.

We believe RE should expose children to different religions, cultures and beliefs. Through our RE curriculum, we aim to nurture the tolerance of faiths and cultures that are different to our own. Children will be given the opportunity to further enhance their learning through participating in visits to a range of religious buildings and listening to inspirational speakers from a variety of faiths in assemblies.

In order to offer a broad and balanced RE curriculum, we follow the Leeds Agreed Syllabus and have mapped out units of work for each year group providing an appropriate spectrum of learning about and learning from different faiths. We use a range of planning units and resources to deliver these intentions and select content according to the needs and prior knowledge of the children. Cross-curricular opportunities are planned in throughout the year to allow children to make links between Religious Education and other areas of the curriculum.

Through their time at Whitkirk, children will learn about a number of world religions because we believe that this will give them a better understanding of the world beyond their own locality. We believe that it is our responsibility to ensure our children have some understanding of a diversity of beliefs and religions. Above all, we want our children to develop a respect for other beliefs and religions and appreciate and celebrate the diverse world in which they live.
