Whitkirk's Curriculum
‘To be the best that we can be.’
Our curriculum at Whitkirk
At Whitkirk Primary School, every child is recognised as unique. Our curriculum is designed to give all pupils the opportunity to thrive, build self-belief, and develop the knowledge, skills and confidence they need for happy, successful futures.
We offer a broad, ambitious, knowledge rich curriculum that inspires curiosity and encourages children to look beyond their immediate experiences. Learning is structured so that knowledge and skills build progressively across year groups, supported by engaging “Big Idea” questions that deepen understanding and make meaningful links across subjects.
Real-life opportunities, enrichment experiences and high quality teaching help pupils embed knowledge and apply their learning in different contexts. Our dedicated subject leaders carefully shape and monitor each area of the curriculum to ensure it is well sequenced, purposeful and inclusive for all.
Central to everything we do are our school values:
Respect, Achievement, Forgiveness, Trust, Safety and Friendship.
We are committed to ensuring our pupils develop strong cultural capital and an appreciation of diversity. Serving the East Leeds community, we intentionally expose children to a wide range of cultures, beliefs and experiences, helping them grow into confident, caring citizens ready to play a positive role in modern society.
